About The Position

The Operating Room Clinical Supervisor is responsible for the overall coordination, supervision, and quality of patient care services within the Operating Room. This role oversees nursing and anesthesia services, ensures appropriate staffing and resource utilization, and manages the efficient flow of both elective and non-elective surgical cases. The Supervisor serves as a clinical and operational leader, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification through the American Heart Association (AHA), required within 6 months of hire unless deemed not required by department leadership.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN). or enrolled in a ADN to BSN program
  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in an Operating Room or Surgical Services environment.
  • Advanced clinical and technical knowledge of surgical services, including surgery, endoscopy, and pre-operative and post-operative care areas.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and demands in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all patient care services within the Operating Room, including nursing and anesthesia services.
  • Coordinate staff, resources, and workflow to ensure cohesive, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Manage the daily flow of surgical cases, ensuring timely case starts and efficient room utilization.
  • Monitor and assess OR resources (personnel, equipment, and rooms) to ensure appropriate setup for surgical procedures.
  • Coordinate OR schedules and communicate changes or openings with patient care units and clinical leaders.
  • Facilitate accommodation of unscheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Expedite surgical schedules for both elective and non-elective cases.
  • Monitor employee assignments and maintain staff schedules.
  • Evaluate staffing levels and adjust assignments to maintain productivity standards.
  • Ensure adequate staffing of nursing and support services to meet patient care demands.
  • Assist the Manager with development of annual capital and operational budgets.
  • Work within established budgets through analysis of fiscal reports and productivity data.
  • Promote cost-effective use of supplies, equipment, and staffing resources.
  • Evaluate the quality of patient care through collaboration with unit and organizational resources.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, nursing department standards, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed, utilizing the nursing process to ensure safe, therapeutic, and evidence-based care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff.
  • Promote open communication and teamwork across all departments.
  • Serve as liaison between physicians and nursing staff, acting as a problem solver and mediator.
  • Coordinate physician needs to support optimal surgical outcomes.
  • Coach and mentor staff to support performance improvement and professional growth.
  • Complete performance evaluations and support overall staff engagement and morale.
  • Recommend hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective actions, and terminations as appropriate.
  • Adhere to the organization’s Code of Ethical Conduct.
  • Ensure personal actions and those of supervised staff comply with all applicable policies, regulations, and laws.
