About The Position

The Supervisor, SUD Counselor Education and Development (herein referred to as “Supervisor”) is responsible for the design, implementation and oversight of the dedicated support program for SUD Counselors at the organization. The Supervisor is responsible for tracking all registered SUD Counselor credentials and education, and ensuring registered counselors are meeting their milestones in order to keep an active credential. This role ensures that all registered counseling staff meet California state requirements for registration and initial certification, with a particular focus on compliance with new mandates established by Assembly Bill (AB) 2473 and DHCS BHIN 25-029. The Supervisor acts as the organization’s primary subject matter expert on AOD counselor educational compliance and standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent. AA, BA, or other higher education preferred.
  • Substance Use Disorder or Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certification from an accredited California agency (CAADE, CADTP, CCAPP).
  • Knowledge of the SUD Certification process
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a certified SUD Counselor
  • 1—2 years experience working in an administrative role, preferably in a high volume, deadline driven setting
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office Suite and Office 365
  • Meticulous attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills; communicates clearly and effectively

Responsibilities

  • Credentialing/Re-credentialing
  • Oversee credentialing for all registered SUD Counselors, including: Facilitate gathering of all documentation and information needed for registered Counselor initial credentialing and re-credentialing
  • Verify professional training and credentials through primary and secondary sources, such as running education verification and consulting licensing agencies
  • Review resumes, credentialing applications, and associated documentation to ensure that applicants fulfill all necessary licensing and credentialing requirements
  • Communicate directly with applicants, candidates, management, and other entities to help facilitate the credentialing and re-credentialing process Facilitate final approval, approval with conditions, or denial of credentialing
  • Maintain current, audit-ready individual provider credentialing files
  • Input/upload documents and data information to HR360’s HCM and cloud-based personnel file management system
  • Perform routine database queries to manage credentials, following established protocol when sending reminders according to credential expiration dates
  • Communicate credentialing status to counselors and programs, including when re-credentialing is needed
  • Tracking
  • Actively track the registration and education status of all SUD registered personnel (employees, interns, and apprentices)
  • Establish and manage a system to track milestones, including required education, work experience, application status, and other steps towards certification. Tracking system will include key dates and method for timely notification to staff.
  • Create and monitor reward system for employee progress towards above milestones and certification
  • Development and Support
  • Hold regular Q&A sessions with staff and management to support them through the SUD certification process
  • Meet individually with staff on a regular basis to walk them through the certification process
  • Teach International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) prep courses for SUD Certification exam.
  • Create a framework and guidance for SUD Supervisors outlining how to support their employees who are pursuing SUD certification to ensure they are on track to meet their required deadlines.
  • Notify employees of next steps in possible promotions once certified
  • Support Certified SUD Counselors with continuing education questions or renewal when needed
  • Research and Advocacy
  • Maintain active partnerships and liaison with local community colleges and community partners
  • Keep up-to-date on SUD Counselor education requirements and regulations
  • And perform other duties as assigned
