About The Position

The H QS SUBSTATION & METER SUBSTATION Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor) The job function involves supervising and directing the safe, cost-effective, & reliable construction, operation and maintenance of substation equipment. The position requires the supervision, planning, direction, and evaluation of the work of assigned personnel in the installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of the substation facilities. This includes administrative functions, such as preparing performance appraisals and conducting interviews. The supervisor must be available for emergency calls at all times and perform field inspections. The role also involves implementing training and safety programs for assigned personnel, developing hold-off requests for safe work areas, coordinating work for external and internal customers, procuring necessary parts and materials, maintaining required records, and participating in company emergency response activities as assigned.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of substation systems construction, operation and maintenance, normally acquired through an apprenticeship/technician training program, military, or substation field engineering training and experience.
• Basic understanding of the principles of front-line leadership and supervision or military leadership training.
• Working knowledge of personal computers and/or database systems for spreadsheet, work processing, and other software applications.
• Desire experience with enterprise resource planning/asset management (ERP/EAM) systems, especially SAP.
• Thorough knowledge of typical substation and utility safety practices and procedures.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to influence or persuade various groups or individuals.
• Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
• Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

• Professional Engineering license is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, plans, directs, and evaluates the work of assigned personnel in the installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of substation facilities.
• Implements training and safety programs for assigned personnel.
• Develops hold-off requests to assure proper and safe work areas for personnel.
• Coordinates work for external and internal customers including various engineering organizations and other departments.
• Procures parts, material or equipment required for the installation and maintenance of system equipment.
• Maintains required records for the division, submits forecasts and reports on the work activities of assigned personnel.
• Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned.
