About the position

The Supervisor Sterile Processing Technician at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). This role ensures the effective decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment, while maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards. The supervisor manages staff and maintains the integrity of the sterile processing workflow to support surgical and patient care activities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the workflow for decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of sterile supplies to operating rooms and other clinical departments when applicable.
  • Monitor inventory levels of sterile processing supplies and equipment to facilitate ordering when necessary.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of sterile processing staff, ensuring proper onboarding and adherence to departmental procedures.
  • Develop staff schedules, ensuring appropriate coverage for daily operations.
  • Provide coaching, assist in performance evaluations, and identify opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards (e.g., AAMI, CDC, OSHA, and Joint Commission) and organizational policies.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of sterile processing procedures to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Investigate and resolve equipment failures, contamination incidents, or process deficiencies.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to staff on sterile processing techniques, equipment operation, and infection control protocols.
  • Act as a liaison between sterile processing, the OR, and other clinical departments to ensure effective communication and support.
  • Collaborate with Infection Control to develop and enforce cleaning, sterilization, and aseptic techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records for sterilization processes, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
  • Prepare reports on department performance metrics, including efficiency, compliance, and incident tracking.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required.
  • Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sterile processing, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in surgical services or sterile processing.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of sterile processing techniques, infection control practices, and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with sterile processing equipment and related software systems.
