About The Position

The position is for a Supervisor of Central Sterile Supply at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, requiring a GED or High School Diploma, an active CRCST certification, and 4 years of certified experience. Requirements

  • GED or High School Diploma.
  • Active CRCST certification.
  • 4 years of certified experience.
  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Certified Endoscopy Reprocessor (CER).
  • Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the operations and personnel of Central Sterile Supply.
  • Maintains departmental compliance with regulatory agencies, including Joint Commission and Department of Health.
  • Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Medical Center in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
  • Establishes internal inventory levels and maintains levels in accordance with set standards.
  • Monitors inventory levels for proper utilization.
  • Identifies, analyzes, interprets and acts on related problems within customer departments.
  • Ensures established procedures and standards of practice are followed for decontamination, cleaning, inspection, processing and sterilization of reusable supplies and equipment.
  • Provides instructions and in-service in new products, procedures, case cart preparation, and equipment.
  • Maintains effective communication with appropriate nursing and medical center personnel.
  • Oversees preparation and maintenance of the instrument asset inventory.
  • Rounds in the Operating Room and throughout the department each shift to assess utilization and anticipate needs.
  • Assesses and understands the competencies of each staff member and develops appropriate Performance Improvement programs.
  • Maintains sterilization records and related data in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates with hospital maintenance and contractor representatives to assure that all equipment is in proper operating condition.
  • Provides comprehensive department orientation to all new personnel and ongoing training to all staff.
  • Assures a safe working environment for all employees and visitors.
  • Supports budget preparation and monitors operational budget for opportunities for fiscal improvement.
  • Coordinates the interviewing of new and replacement employees.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agency mandates and recommendations.
  • Oversees the development and updating of policies and procedures.
