About The Position

Oversees the daily operations of the City's Solid Waste Landfills and Scale House and ensures safe and efficient operations. Instructs, supervises, and monitors employees.

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
• At least five (5) years of experience in solid waste operations and leadership.
• Valid Texas Driver License or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff including hiring and termination decisions, prioritizing assignments, and directing work.
• Develops and oversees employee work schedules and approves time away from work.
• Provides and/or facilitates employee training and development.
• Approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate.
• Completes employee performance appraisals.
• Determines or makes recommendations regarding new hire salaries and salary changes.
• Acts as liaison between employees and management.
• Plans routes and monitors driver performance; conducts field observation reports to ensure safe, effective, and courteous waste collection service.
• Receives, reviews, and resolves public complaints and/or concerns regarding waste collection.
• Reviews reports to calculate tons of garbage, recycling, branches, and dead animals averaged daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly.
• Follows all City and government policies to ensure sanitation units are constructed, operated, and maintained to prevent loss of waste material and minimize health and safety hazards.
• May operate heavy equipment as needed with the proper required Commercial Driver License.
• Performs related work as required.
