(Role: Professional Supervisor)   JOB FUNCTION: Supervise the day to day operation of the generation facilities and coordinate generation needs and to provide reliable uninterrupted power to the Distribution system.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of combustion turbines, boilers, steam turbines, diesel engines, water treatment systems, generators, emissions control equipment and auxiliary equipment or similar.
  • Working knowledge of power plant operations and/or maintenance or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of computerized control systems and personal computer software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement, Accident Prevention Manual, General Information Manual, Code of Conduct, etc.
  • Demonstrated supervisory/leadership skills including professional written, oral and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; strong facilitation and interpersonal skills to create teamwork among staff and internal customers; and the willingness and ability to train others.
  • In-depth operational troubleshooting skills for combustion turbines, boilers, steam turbines, generators and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to remain flexible in demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data related to equipment performance and maintenance requirements.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Multiple years (5-7) of related work experience in power production operations and maintenance.
  • Several Years (3-5) of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to major abnormal condition of Generation plant equipment.
  • Supervises and administers personnel matters including performance appraisals and interview, recognition of employee achievements; disciplinary actions, and staffing and relief personnel schedules. Administers the operator training program in the power plants and qualifies the operators in every position.
  • Supervises and directs overall shift operations of Generation power plant operations, coordinates Generation needs and unit commitments with System Operations and Planning, including emergency shutdown or startups of units.
  • Supervises waste water chemistry analysis; schedules fuel oil deliveries, chemical deliveries and waste water operations.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
