About The Position

Under the supervision of the Manager, Retirement Services, the Supervisor, Retirement Analysts oversees the day-to-day administration of the department's pension plans by the Analyst staff. This includes the supervision and allocation of work to the staff, mentoring and training the staff on the administration of the pension plans, reviewing staff work, and providing direct member support as needed.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience within a defined benefit customer service environment or retirement plan administration preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ERISA, DOL regulations, and retirement plans types, including 401(k), 403(b), 457, and/or Defined Benefit programs.
  • Strong ability required to analyze data, translate employment rules, and apply legal DOL and plan document calculation requirements to the data and employment rules.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Advanced mathematical and analytical skills (successful completion of a math assessment required).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
  • Highly detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to support participants and internal stakeholders professionally.
  • Must possess a strong sense of ownership of work.
  • Ability to take initiative to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation while solving problems efficiently.
  • Maintains a strong record of attendance and on-time work performance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Economics or Accounting required.
  • High - Ability required to analyze data, translate employment rules, and apply legal DOL and plan document calculation requirements to the data and employment rules.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision to the pension Analyst team; assign and monitor staff workload, ensure backup coverage, and track deliverables and due dates.
  • Provide instruction and guidance on attendance expectations and work performance requirements.
  • Ensure that QA standards are met in regard to pension application processing and department Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Provide feedback and coaching to staff regarding member communications and pension application processing.
  • Prioritize team assignments and shift resources as needed.
  • Supervise the annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) process for active members and RMD recalculations, including member communications.
  • Collaborate with the CARE Team to track appointments and other operational needs.
  • Draft and/or review complex member communications.
  • Work directly with Fund professionals such as the Fund Actuary and Independent Auditors in providing information necessary in completing the annual valuation and plan audits.
  • Internal liaison with Member Services (call center), the Executive Office, and the Union regarding member escalations and pension concerns.
  • Review and update member letters to adhere with the Fund’s style guidelines and Fund Counsel/Compliance approval.
  • Assist Manager, Retirement Services in any necessary preparation for Trustee meetings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), desk guides, and other applicable department workflow charts.
  • Help identify operational errors using approved corrective methods and maintain issue logs with root-cause analysis.
  • Determine and arrange team training for new plan rules and processes, and also refresher training as demonstrated through performance feedback.
  • Perform other projects or relevant work duties as assigned by Management.
