About The Position

The Native American Center at Butte College supports self-identified Native American students by promoting educational success, developing leaders, and increasing the number of mentors to empower future generations. The Supervisor, Retention Specialist for the Native American Center develops, implements, and evaluates activities designed to increase student retention, persistence, and completion for the Native American student population at Butte College. The Supervisor, Retention Specialist also provides guidance and support for students who need assistance staying on track for degree completion. This position will help to enhance student success by offering various programs and services that include personal coaching, on-going support and follow-up, developmental workshops, degree progress consultations, and referrals to other on- and off-campus resources. The Supervisor, Retention Specialist will provide direct supervision to assigned departmental staff and student employees within the Native American Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in management, social or behavioral science, counseling, school counseling or a related field
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience directly related to the responsibilities of this classification.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity and sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
