About The Position

The Supervisor will maintain the day-to-day operations of thefacility and communicate with the Manager regarding the facility onan ongoing basis. In addition to the daily on site supervision, inthe Radiation Oncology Department will provide clinical duties as a Radiation Therapist to fulfill scheduling needs and volumefluctuations. They will apply ionizing radiation to adult andgeriatric patients in accordance with the prescription andinstructions of the Radiation Oncologist. They must be capable ofoperating radiation-producing equipment utilizing radiation safetymeasures and be able to perform a series of complex and precisetechnical procedures.

Requirements

  • ARRT - Reg Radiologic Technologist Required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support Required Within 1 month of hire
  • High School diploma or GED required (at the time of hire or transfer to position) and must be a graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy School.
  • Must possess knowledge of a variety of treatment modalities including experience with Linear Accelerators and Simulators.
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills are required.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience as a Certified RadiationTherapist.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with others in person and on the telephone.

  • Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentiallyinfectious material.
  • Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, workindependently, regular and predictable attendance and ability tostay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching,grasping, fingering and feeling.
  • May require repetition of thesemovements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • Physical Demand Level: Medium.
  • Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% orthe workday) 10 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • The Supervisor will monitor the day to day operations of thefacility. These duties will include but not limited to charge/documentationaudits, database entry and query, completing therapist call schedules, managing and coordinating time off requests, leadspecial projects when instructed, standardize therapy standardsacross sites, manage patient schedules for efficiency and consistency, conduct monthly staff meetings and other meetings asneeded.
  • Responsible for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose ofradiation for treatment of cancer. Verifies calculations of treatment values and prescription according to parameters.Takes weekly verification films of all areas being treated. Carriesoutpatient treatment parameters in accordance with set upinstructions and proper immobilization to accurately deliver radiation to the proper site and dosage. Assists in the fabricationof treatment devices when required. Assists physicians with various procedures by making recommendations and/or suggestions with regardto technical limitations of equipment or patients and the abilityto successfully administer therapy.
  • The Supervisor will conduct monthly MyPulse meetings with eachdirect report, complete annual job performance reviews, developpersonal improvement plans, assist and guide employees in goal setting, conflict resolution and any related human resourcemanagement needed for their direct reports.
  • The Supervisor will work closely with the manager to suggest,research, and provide assistance with the yearly capital andoperating budgets.
  • Refers patients to the physician or nurse when indicated due tochanges in symptoms and/or treatment side effects.
  • Schedules patients for outpatient appointments.
  • Maintains suppliesand inventories.
  • Performs morning quality assurance output checks on a daily basisconsistent with radiation physicist recommendation.
  • The Supervisor will assist staff in service recovery and communicate with the manager of any perceived issues.
  • Assist in coordination and involvement of community awarenessprograms such as Relay for Life, Making Strides and Cancer Survivor’s Day.
  • Proficient in the electronic health record and assists the managerin identifying process improvement.
  • Maintains compliance with State and Joint Commission requirementsin regard to radiation safety and protection for patients and staff.
  • Attends scheduled in-services to review policy/procedure and safetymeasures.
  • Wears appropriate monitoring device to detect personnel exposure.
  • Responsible for monitoring equipment operations and reporting ofany malfunctions or peculiarities to the manager and/or radiationphysicist to ensure proper function prior to treatment of patients
  • Performs and documents proper charge capture for all proceduresperformed and completes regular quality assurance of charges.
  • Works with patient accounting to resolve any denials, rejections oraudit inquiries.
  • Performs proper documentation in the patient treatment recordaccording to procedure which is consistent with an environment ofsafety and good communication.
  • Proficient in simulation and fabricating treatment devices.
  • Participates in process improvement activities.
  • Contributes to the development of students in the department and isresponsible for teaching and completing radiation therapy student competencies.
  • Schedules student time in the department appropriately and makesure that their experience is valuable to both the student and theemployee instructor.
  • May be asked to rotate to another Radiation Therapy center to cover staff shortages or fluctuations in patient volume.
  • Has a thorough understanding of proper billing practices and is able to use site specific office management system for schedulingand billing.
  • The Supervisor will decide specifically which employee (s) in theradiation therapist job title that will be assigned to take call/standby pay and receive additional compensation.
  • These decisions shall be made fairly and equitably using work and skill relatedfactors.
  • All status hour radiation therapists above >0.49 FTEwill be required to be placed into the On Call/ Standby rotation.
  • Supervisor will develop, publish and communicate the employeeschedule for the site that they are responsible for, working with other supervisors/lead therapist to make sure proper coverage is ateach center based on the patient volume at each center.
  • All other duties as assigned.
