About The Position

The Supervisor - Transportation Construction Inspection supervises, plans, directs, and ensures the efficient execution of inspection and related activities for the Public Works department. This role involves managing the activities of project managers, construction superintendents, inspectors, consultants, and contractors to ensure overall project management, organization, and construction. The supervisor will develop and approve schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals, inspect work for quality, evaluate work performance, and provide leadership for various inspection scenarios.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) years of experience inspecting the design/construction of public works/public utilities projects.
  • Two (2) years supervisory/project management responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in any field plus four (4) years of the required experience including two (2) years of supervisory/management responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business fields plus two (2) years of the required experience including two (2) years of supervisory/management responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a field other than those listed above plus four (4) years of the required experience including two (2) years of supervisory/management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, coordinates, and manages the activities of project managers, construction superintendents, inspectors, consultants, and contractors.
  • Develops and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals; recommends or adjusts work priorities, project schedules, resources, and work plans as required.
  • Inspects work for quality, evaluates work performance, and recommends awards for employees; provides advice, counsel, instruction, and identifies routine training needs for employees.
  • Performs challenging inspections and provides expertise and leadership for non-routine projects and technical issues.
  • Reviews license and permits to ensure all required documentation is current; assists, supports, and provides leadership for various inspection scenarios.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and ensures inspection goals are met in a timely manner and works to increase productivity.
  • Oversees the identification of discrepancies and non-compliant issues while ensuring the appropriate enforcement of rules and regulations.
  • Assists and supports the hiring process for employees and maintenance workers; participates in job fairs and interview panels.
  • Evaluates staff and enforces disciplinary measures for field employees.
  • Provides quality customer service by communicating effectively with customers and responding to issues or concerns timely and professionally.
