About The Position

Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. This position is located within the Structures Division in Carson City. Incumbents will perform federally mandated bridge/tunnel safety inspections, statewide. Incumbents collect and analyze bridge/tunnel condition data, evaluates bridge/ tunnel safety, and develops bridge maintenance/repair recommendations.

Requirements

• Licensed Professional Engineer.
• Experience in performing bridge/tunnel safety inspections.
• Ability to collect and analyze engineering data.
• Supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform federally mandated bridge/tunnel safety inspections statewide.
• Collect and analyze bridge/tunnel condition data.
• Evaluate bridge/tunnel safety.
• Develop bridge maintenance/repair recommendations.
• Perform routine, Non-redundant steel tension members (NSTM), in-depth, special, and damage/emergency bridge/tunnel inspections consistent with the requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standard (NBIS) and the National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS).
• Collect Specifications of the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI) and element level inspection data.
• Collect Specifications for the National Tunnel Inventory (SNTI).
• Develop bridge repair strategies and produce bridge inspection reports using inspectX Bridge management system software.
• Prepare bridge inspection schedules.
• Perform truck permit evaluation.
• Perform various bridge management tasks.
• Supervise routine bridge inspection staff.
