About The Position

Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. This position is located within the Structures Division in Carson City. Incumbents will perform federally mandated bridge/tunnel safety inspections, statewide. Incumbents collect and analyze bridge/tunnel condition data, evaluates bridge/ tunnel safety, and develops bridge maintenance/repair recommendations. This position is responsible for performing routine, Non-redundant steel tension members (NSTM), in-depth, special, and damage/emergency bridge/tunnel inspections consistent with the requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standard (NBIS) and the National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS); collecting Specifications of the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI) and element level inspection data; collecting Specifications for the National Tunnel Inventory (SNTI); developing bridge repair strategies and producing bridge inspection reports using inspectX Bridge management system software; preparing bridge inspection schedules; performing truck permit evaluation; and performing various bridge management tasks. This position is responsible to supervise routine bridge inspection staff and travels up to 50% of time. Candidates should expect travel up to one (1) week per month statewide.

Requirements

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • Experience in bridge/tunnel safety inspections.
  • Knowledge of National Bridge Inspection Standard (NBIS) and National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS).
  • Ability to collect and analyze engineering data.
  • Experience in developing maintenance and repair recommendations.
