About The Position

The Supervisor-Police Property supervises, supports, and assists the operations of the police property warehouse and vehicle impound lot containing found, stolen, and confiscated property and police evidence. Safeguards and maintains the integrity of all police evidence or property in accordance with state laws, City Ordinances, and departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

Knowledge of police department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of evidence management and handling
Knowledge of inventory control.
Knowledge of impounding property and maintaining documented evidence.
Ability to handle and manage evidence, inventory, and other police property.
Ability to manage inventory and maintain strong controls.
Ability to compile accurate information for court cases and presentations.
Ability to respond to evidence and property inquiries.
Ability to streamline evidence management
Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED
Experience: Five (5) years of administrative experience in one (1) or more of the following areas: - Warehouse/Inventory Management - Invoicing - Payment processing/accounts payable - Payroll - Accounting - Budget preparation - Procurement AND One (1) year of experience in a leadwork/supervisory capacity (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above).
EQUIVALENCIES: An Associate’s degree in any field plus three (3) years of the required experience, including one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience, will meet the education and experience requirements. A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a Business, Social Science, or Computer field plus one (1) year of the required experience, including one (1) year of leadwork/supervisory experience, will meet the education and experience requirements A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a non-specified field plus three (3) years of the required experience, including one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience, will meet the education and experience requirements.
LICENSE: Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: No felony or class A misdemeanor convictions. No class B misdemeanor convictions in the last ten (10) years. No family violence convictions. Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any felony, class A or class B misdemeanor.
Availability for twenty-four (24) hour emergency calls

Responsibilities

Supervises, monitors, and coordinates training for employees engaged in the receipt, storage, and release of impounded property; facilitates and schedules the transfer, release and disposal of evidence.
Responds to inquiries from law enforcement personnel and citizens concerning property in custody; tracks and maintains the proper chain of evidence for court presentation.
Supervises the release of impounded property to citizens, sworn police personnel and other law enforcement agencies; ensures space availability and the orderly placement of impounded property for quick retrieval.
Identifies, determines, and implements appropriate methods of storage for sensitive or valuable property; oversees the maintenance of files and records regarding the disposition of property in police custody.
Supervises and coordinates property warehouse and vehicle impound activities with various City departments and law enforcement agencies.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Participates in the preparation, development, and implementation of the budget for evidence management; monitors and oversees controls and expenditures.
Develops and evaluates recommendations for changes in policies, procedures, and practices for the division.
Performs quality control checks and audits of the evidence inventory using a computerized bar-coding system.
Coordinates and oversees the processing of court dispositions and requests for dispositions on evidence.
Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
