The unit is responsible for dispensing medications accurately and efficiently, maintaining comprehensive medication inventory and control, including narcotics and controlled substances. This includes selecting, calculating, measuring, preparing (both sterile and non-sterile), packaging, labeling, charging, and crediting various pharmacy products like intravenous medications. In addition, the pharmacy ensures compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3 Years Hospital Pharmacy Technician experience.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification.
  • Proficient understanding of all aspects of pharmacy functions relating to inpatient, outpatient and IV modalities for inventory control, unit dose dispensing requirements in acute and other patient areas.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees leadership of technician staff to:
  • Integrate the department/services into the organization’s primary functions.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provisions of services.
  • Determine the qualifications and competence of technician and courier staff who provide patient care services.
  • Continuously assess and improve upon the performance of care and services provided; maintain quality control programs, as appropriate.
  • Recommend to operations manager and/or director, space and other resources needed by the department.
  • Provide in- service training and continuing education of applicable people in the department.
  • Interview and select candidates for hire.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance measures on technician and courier staff, benchmarking measures to other institutions, if available.
  • Maintain compliance to budgetary constraints related, but not limited to, supplies, drugs and hours worked.
