The Pharmacist Supervisor oversees pharmacy operations and manages a team of direct reports, ensuring regulatory compliance, medication safety, and efficient workflow. This role is responsible for staff training, performance development, and cross-functional communication, while supporting specialty areas such as IV operations, medication safety, or operational services. The supervisor participates in quality improvement initiatives, mentors staff and collaborates with the pharmacy leadership team to achieve departmental goals and maintain high standards of patient care. General Responsibilities: Demonstrate knowledge of standards and regulations and maintains proper documentation. Assure readiness with all regulatory agencies and compliance with department, hospital, and AH policies and procedures. Assist in the documentation, implementation, and monitoring of medication and patient safety initiatives. Maintain safe and efficient operations and workflow in the pharmacy and related areas. Support the departmental goals by directly assisting team members and being flexible in roles and responsibilities. Communicate effectively and appropriately with healthcare providers and caregivers and assures continuity of pharmaceutical care between shifts and among team members. Perform orientation of employees in all job functions and cross-trains when necessary Provide continual training and cross training to employees on new job functions, equipment, and technology. Actively participate in annual evaluations and works with team members throughout the year handling performance, discipline issues and career advancement opportunities. Participate in quality, safety and other project work related to medication management. Support the pharmacist-in-charge in the vision and department goals, assist team members and is being flexible in roles and responsibilities. Collaborative member of pharmacy leadership team assisting with departmental initiatives. IV Supervisor Ensure compliance with all pharmacy and compounding laws and regulations, including USP 795, 797 and 800 standards. Conduct regular audits and inspections of sterile compounding practices. Ensure proper use and maintenance of laminar airflow workbenches, biological safety cabinets, and other compounding equipment. Implement and enforce aseptic techniques and procedures. Develop and implement quality assurance programs for the IV room. Monitor and analyze compounding error rates and implement corrective actions. Conduct risk assessments and enforce safety protocols to prevent contamination. Ensure the proper handling and disposal of hazardous drugs. Oversee the daily operations of the IV room, ensuring efficiency and adherence to sterile compounding protocols. Implement and maintain IV room policies and procedures. Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for all compounded sterile and non-sterile preparations (CSPs). Coordinate with the main pharmacy to manage workflow and prioritize IV medication orders. Ensure proper storage conditions for all IV medications, including refrigeration and protection from light.
