About The Position

The Operating Room Technician (ORT) Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the care and safety of patients in the surgical unit, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques, and facilitating the efficient operation of the unit's processes. This role involves supervising ORT staff, managing equipment procurement, and coordinating with various departments to maintain optimal workflow and resource utilization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician Training facility program.
  • 5 years of experience as an Operating Room Technician.
  • Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in English.
  • Ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and teach department team members principles of aseptic technique.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of surgical anatomy and procedures to prepare necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure adherence to instrument/sponge/sharps counting policy within the unit's POD.
  • Monitor RF Wand usage and safety standards for electrical/laser/radiology and correct site surgery.
  • Oversee operation of autoclave/Steris and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Ensure proper labeling of medications on the sterile field and adherence to specimen collection policies.
  • Provide orientation, training, and continuing education for staff in the unit's POD.
  • Collaborate with OR scheduling to proactively manage resource conflicts.
  • Coordinate equipment usage and ensure adequate supply levels for unit cases.
  • Update preference cards using Cerner/Surginet system.
  • Display leadership and promote professional growth of POD personnel.
  • Conduct monthly unit meetings with agenda and sign-in sheet.
  • Assist with annual budget and resource utilization recommendations.
  • Act as liaison between nursing, anesthesia, OR technicians, surgeons, and ancillary services.
  • Assign staff to maintain specialty carts and ensure organization of surgical suites.
  • Facilitate smooth flow of surgical interventions and participate in PI activities.
