About The Position

Position Purpose: Incumbent will be accountable for assigning daily field work assignments, supervising and inspecting maintenance, repair and installation work performed by field technicians. Indirect reports – 16 field employees. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Support field work with field employees. Coordinate and schedule a variety of maintenance, installation and repair projects for the water and sewer systems in the Jersey City water system. Allocate and assign work crews to specific jobs based on job requirements and staffing ability. Supervise and inspect maintenance, repair and installation work to be completed in the Jersey City water system. Perform documented safety inspections of system maintenance crews and inspectors during course of daily field inspections Respond to field complaints or problems received from customers (residential, commercial and client) by conducting physical site inspections. Investigate site for planned projects to determine necessary safety precautions, special tools and equipment, in addition to other special project requirements. Participate in developing and implementing the department’s operational scheduling and standard operating procedures. In addition to main responsibilities, it provides backup to other supervisors as directed by the Manager or Assistant Manager. Assists in compliance with contract deliverables. Communicates appropriate information as needed to the appropriate parties. Must be able to respond to emergency calls and work extended hours as needed (the incumbent must be a member of the emergency callout rotation team). May be required to adjust work schedule to supervise operations during off hours. The incumbent demonstrates safe work practices, takes part in safety meetings, and advises the superintendent of any non-conforming conditions. Perform other projects / tasks/ duties in the Veolia Municipal Water division as assigned. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • 5 - 7 years experience working in public water supply transmission and distribution systems.
  • 2 - 3 years experience in construction field experience.
  • 2 - 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge in methods, practices, procedures, materials and equipment associated with the construction, maintenance and repair of water distribution systems.
  • Ability to effectively supervise skilled and unskilled employees.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering plans and drawings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines and multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with Google applications, Docs, Sheets, Email.
  • NJ DEP W-1 operators license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator’s licenses.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in use and knowledge of computerized maintenance CMMS systems preferred.
