About The Position

The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships. The Support Services Bureau, Life-Safety Systems Division ls responsible for enhancing and preserving the continuity and support of Public Safety Answering Center (PSAC) dispatch operations and law enforcement personnel in the field. This includes and is not limited to managing and supporting NYPD's Citywide Public Safety Communications Radio Infrastructure, dispatch consoles, audio routing and backhaul systems. The duties of the Supervisor of Radio Repair Operations include, but are not limited to, the following: - Create and update Technical Bulletins, act as a technical contributor and provide knowledge transfer - Supervises the technical repair work of subordinates, including the installation, alignment and tuning of land mobile and marine transmitters, receivers, voting receivers, Base Station transmitters, power supplies, radio dispatch consoles, audio amplifiers, multiplex systems, TCP/IP equipment, land mobile radio to broadband wireless network interface systems and all related equipment. Performs related work, if required. - Opens trouble tickets, schedules and delegated work assignments to subordinates, monitors the progress of ongoing repairs, assists subordinates in resolving difficult technical problems. - Prepares annual evaluations for subordinates - Responds to, and or, delegates repair personnel to correct disruptions to Communication Services. - Advises and cooperates with agency supervisors on technical evaluations of new products and specification compliance. May be required to develop new specifications for new products or systems - Prepare productivity reports

Requirements

  • A first class Federal Communications Radio telephone license with radar endorsement and a valid New York State Driver's License.
  • Eight years recent experience in the two-way mobile radio industry as a repairman; or
  • not less than six years of such experience plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school, college, or training program to make up a total of eight years of creditable experience.
  • Six months of creditable experience will be credited for each year of approved education or training.
