About The Position

The Supervisor of Product Quality Control - Bedford (SPQC) participates in and gives directions on all activities in Texoma, Central and North Texas Product Quality Control (PQC) department(s). This position maintains compliance with attendance policies and department schedules, as outlined in the Carter BloodCare (CBC) Employee Handbook; performs testing and services associated with assigned tasks within the scope of complexity, as defined by accrediting agencies; and participates in competency, proficiency, and educational opportunities. The SPQC participates in educational activities (e.g., tours, presentations, abstracts, publishing articles), mentoring, department laboratory training & competency evaluations. This position participates in critical document review and approval processes, error management/process improvement initiatives and coordinates staff scheduling, counsel/resolution, technical guidance, workflow management, goal setting and performance assessments. By performing these duties, the SPQC ensures that daily operations in Texoma, Central, and North Texas PQC laboratories comply with all established guidelines, deliver excellent service, and meet the needs of all PQC internal department customers. The SPQC exemplifies and champions CBC Core Values and Code of Conduct, and adheres to CBC policies and applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). To support ongoing development and organizational goals, the SPQC is required to attend meetings and training sessions, as assigned. The SPQC maintains active and current professional licensure and/or certifications, as required by role-specific regulations and organizational requirements. Periodic travel between assigned work areas to support other locations/projects in Texoma, North, Central, and East Texas is required. This position may require working varied shifts, extended hours, weekends, and/or overtime to support operational needs. Regular full-time attendance is required during normal working hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree(s) from an accredited institution in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, as outlined in 42 CFR 493.1411(b)
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Board Certification: MLS(ASCP), MT(AAB), MLS(AMT), H(ASCP), SH(ASCP) or equivalent board certification and participation in the CME program, if applicable and required by accrediting agency.
  • Minimum of 2 years of moderate to high complexity laboratory experience
  • Extensive working knowledge of moderate complexity testing and instrumentation utilized in the PQC department, and working knowledge of the parameters associated with donor collections
  • Detailed problem-solving skills; Ability to provide instruction to others based on the problems presented, and provide options for corrective action and proper documentation of the problem and resolution
  • Ability to concentrate, understand problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions; Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology
  • Extensive mathematical ability, including familiarity with laboratory mathematics and computers; Ability to compute, analyze and interpret numerical data for reporting purposes
  • Ability to multitask effectively, establish appropriate priorities, recognize and do what needs to be done without direction, to ensure that work is completed efficiently and supports teamwork and cooperation with coworkers and peers
  • Ability to communicate with individuals using telephones, computers or other electronic devices; Ability to hear and speak effectively on the phone and to use a computer or other electronic devices
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with others (e.g., internal & external clients, co-workers) in a clear, understandable and professional manner (written & oral) at all times and comprehensive reading skills
  • Ability to make decisions that have a significant impact on the department’s credibility, operations and services
  • Strong customer service skills and use appropriate interpersonal styles to establish effective relationships with customers (internal & external) and interact with others in a way that promotes openness, harmony and trust and gives confidence in one’s intentions
  • Clear understanding of all associated accreditation and regulatory agency requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year of previous supervisory experience, preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of hematology and/or microbiology laboratory experience, preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of blood center laboratory experience, preferred
