A professional registered nurse who supervises and coordinates the patient care and other related activities for Nursing Service. Additionally serves as a resource person for ancillary departments when required. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Currently registered by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Nurses.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses working knowledge and complies with Hospital and Department specific policy/procedure.
  • Maintains HIPAA privacy and confidentiality.
  • Works closely with Administration in ensuring successful maintenance of Joint Commission, CMS Standards, CORE measures, patient satisfaction, and fiscal stability.
  • Plans for nursing practice activities consistent with sound utilization of personnel. Monitors and adjusts staff on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Participates in ongoing patient safety training/protection and knowledgeable on needs and methods to report errors and/or abuse.
  • Delivers age-appropriate care which addresses patients
  • Assists with or coordinates discharge planning programs.
  • Communicates effectively with patients/families related to plan of care, education and discharge needs, and to staff for competency needs.
  • Ensures that staff plans and assigns care appropriately and competently performs patient assessment, care intervention, and documentation.
  • Anticipates, reports, and follows through on significant abnormal findings.
  • Accepts supervision and direction. Seeks guidance when needed.
  • Demonstrates competency as appropriate in patient care assessment for each patient population area served: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
  • Knowledge of growth and development.
  • Understands the patient's needs and scope of treatment.
  • Understands the dynamics for each patient incorporating bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning needs.
  • Knowledge of pain management to facilitate patient comfort through a proactive pain control plan.
  • Knowledge of the total care of patients, whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected change in work, volume, acute crises, staffing and scheduling changes.
  • Demonstrates caring and respectful attitude towards patients, families, and co-workers. Promotes good interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrates ability to work alongside with nurses completing assessments, documentation, orders, and clinically trained procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in education, safe administration and monitoring of medications.
  • Demonstrates competency on safe and effective use of equipment.
