The Labor and Delivery unit is a 16-bed unit with a 6-bed OB Emergency Department, 4 antenatal testing rooms and 2 c/section suites. LDR participates in AIM initiatives, PPH protocols with QBL, Severe HTN protocols, and Team Birth as well as multiple other process improvement initiatives. The unit has a charge nurse each shift to coordinate care. Daily safety huddles and bedside shift report are an important part of the unit culture. The unit closely follows AWHONN staffing standards for safe patient care. LDR is part of a Center of Excellence in Advanced Perinatal Care Certification (ACPC), accredited through The Joint Commission. The OBED is nationally accredited through CIHQ and is the only accredited OBED in the country. OBED is staffed by two nurses and an OB Hospitalist 24/7. New grads are welcome and supported through a nationally accredited nurse residency program. The Supervisor Nursing provides clinical expertise and support to the unit(s), serves as a department leader alongside and in the absence of the manager, assists in cost containment activities, is responsible for continued department development through orientation and education, and works with the manager to promote an engaged workforce.
