About The Position

The incumbent is the Supervisor of Sterile Processing Service (SPS), for the Lt. Luke Weathers Jr. V AMC. SPS is the central point within the facility providing the technical instrumentation functions of collection, decontamination, processing, packaging, sterilization and distribution of all reusable patient care, instruments and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules and oversee SPS operations on a daily, weekly, quarterly and annual basis.
• Adjust staffing levels or work procedures within the work unit.
• Improves work methods and procedures used by SPS. Decides what methods will be used in achieving work goals and objectives and determines other strategies necessary to accomplish SPS's annual performance measures.
• Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work; and finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work of SPS.
• Assigns and evaluates work performed by subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
• Incumbent provides formal training and orientation on principles of packaging materials, correct sterilization and decontamination methods, sterilization techniques, safety, body mechanics, and quality assurance.
• Interviews candidates for vacant positions in SPS and makes recommendations for appointment, promotion, or reassignment to fill the positions.
• Takes minor disciplinary measures, such as oral or written counseling letters, admonishment and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases.
