About The Position

The Operations Engineer Supervisor at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Hillsboro, Oregon, is responsible for overseeing the Operations Engineering team, which focuses on the production of low-volume, high-complexity electron microscopy products. This role involves managing the introduction of new products into the factory, improving manufacturing processes, and ensuring timely resolution of manufacturing issues. The supervisor will also engage in performance management, employee development, and project coordination while contributing as an individual contributor in engineering tasks.

Requirements

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as an Operations Engineer, Process Engineer, or in a similar discipline.
  • Previous supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of business functions such as Materials, Financial, Sales, Engineering, and Human Resources in addition to manufacturing and quality.
  • Experience leading technical projects and managing multi-functional projects.
  • Ability to craft technical documentation, procedures, and engineering reports.
  • Experience in data analysis and basic experimental methods, test protocols, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Practical Process Improvements (PPI) and cost reduction strategies.
  • Experience in reviewing data and driving quality improvements.
  • Experience in Failure Analysis and problem-solving.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on highly sophisticated electro-mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Operations Engineering team and oversee the introduction of new EM products into the factory.
  • Conduct annual goal setting and performance reviews for team members.
  • Develop individual development plans and provide mentorship and training to staff.
  • Assist department manager in identifying talent needs, conducting interviews, and selecting candidates.
  • Coordinate projects related to obsolescence, PPI, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure timely assignment and resolution of manufacturing issues.
  • Act as a point of contact for external department concerns and issues.
  • Define and drive safety initiatives and support CAPA and other safety concerns.
  • Perform job duties of an Operations Engineer III as needed.
