About The Position

The Supervisor of Magnet Programs provides leadership to school administrators and central office personnel in the implementation of Magnet Programs, ensuring that all initiatives support the system-wide goals. The role includes assisting in the implementation and maintenance of the centralized magnet application, assessment, and admissions processes, developing promotional materials, managing applicant databases, and overseeing communication between Magnet Programs and non-public schools. The Supervisor also collaborates with various departments to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws and maintains professional knowledge of best practices in magnet education.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree.
  • Five years of successful teaching or related experience.
  • Two years' leadership/management experience in an education setting.
  • Possession of a Maryland Educator Advanced Professional Certificate with an Administrator I endorsement or eligibility for the same.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Coordinator in the implementation and maintenance of the centralized magnet application, assessment and admissions processes.
  • Develops and revises magnet application and promotional materials, both print and web-based.
  • Facilitates the scheduling, implementation, processing and reporting of school-based magnet assessments.
  • Manages the applicant databases and oversees the waitlist admissions and new resident application processes.
  • Oversees the notification process for student admissions and transmits admissions information to the magnet schools and feeder schools.
  • Builds, tracks and measures marketing efforts that bring in the identified student populations.
  • Assists in the coordination of the Countywide Magnet EXPO, Magnet Information Meetings, and Magnet Showcase Events.
  • Oversees communication between the Magnet Programs and non-public schools and the home school liaison.
  • Responds to inquiries from staff, parents, and community concerning all aspects of the magnet programs.
  • Provides ongoing communication and support to school magnet resource personnel and administrators.
  • Assists in the development of workshops/presentations on magnet schools/programs.
  • Assists the Coordinator in providing information to the Director of Educational Opportunities and Services.
  • Provides ongoing communication and support to site-based magnet staff regarding Magnet Schools of America activities.
  • Collaborates with and supports offices and Student Support Services on the development and implementation of magnet curriculum.
  • Collaborates with the Department of Special Education and others to ensure compliance with testing accommodations.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Student Data on the collection of data and production of reports.
  • Maintains professional knowledge of magnet school best practices and policy issues.
