About The Position

As a Supervisor Body Shop Logistics Operations your role is pivotal in managing the logistics of receiving, storing, and distributing empty totes in the warehouse. You will supervise a team, maintain inventory accuracy, ensure the efficient flow of materials, and drive process improvements in the receiving area. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of operations while meeting production demands. Your leadership and ability to optimize warehouse operations will be critical to supporting smooth production workflows and contributing to overall operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Warehouse/Logistics Management: At least 4 years of experience in warehouse or logistics management, with a focus on material handling, inventory management, or body shop logistics in the automotive manufacturing industry.
• Team Leadership: Proven experience in leading and managing teams, with the ability to motivate staff and ensure high levels of performance in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
• Inventory Control: Experience with inventory management, including tracking materials, managing stock levels, and ensuring accurate record-keeping of warehouse materials.
• Process Optimization: Experience with process improvement initiatives, particularly in logistics or warehousing, using methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma to enhance operational efficiency.
• Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in logistics, supply chain management, business, or a related field. An equivalent amount of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Leadership and Team Management: Strong ability to lead, train, and manage a team, ensuring productivity and high morale.
• Logistics Software: Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP), and other relevant logistics software for inventory tracking and reporting.
• Material Handling Equipment: Familiarity with the operation of material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyor systems.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify inefficiencies, troubleshoot operational problems, and implement solutions.
• Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to coordinate effectively with team members, other departments, and external partners.
• Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage logistics operations, track inventory, and oversee warehouse space efficiently.
• Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail when managing tote inventory and handling materials.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of logistics associates involved in the receiving, handling, and storage of empty totes. Assign tasks and ensure efficient operations to meet production and logistics goals.
• Staff Training and Development: Provide ongoing training for warehouse associates in procedures related to the handling of empty totes, safety protocols, and logistics management systems. Encourage skill development to improve team performance.
• Shift Coordination: Organize shift schedules to ensure that staffing levels are adequate to meet operational needs during peak times or shifts, maintaining effective coverage throughout the day.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and ensure adherence to operational goals, safety standards, and efficiency targets.
• Receiving Empty Totes: Supervise the process of receiving empty totes from other departments or external suppliers. Ensure that all incoming totes are inspected for damage and documented accurately in the warehouse management system (WMS).
• Tote Identification and Documentation: Ensure that all totes are correctly identified, tagged, and tracked in the system. Keep accurate records of empty tote quantities, locations, and movements.
• Storage Organization: Manage the proper organization and storage of empty totes in the warehouse. Ensure that totes are stored in a way that maximizes warehouse space, ensures easy access, and supports smooth material flow.
• Inventory Accuracy: Ensure inventory accuracy by regularly monitoring empty tote stock levels and maintaining proper documentation. Perform cycle counts and stock audits as necessary to keep inventory levels up to date.
• Tote Recycling and Maintenance: Oversee the inspection, repair, and recycling of empty totes that are damaged or no longer fit for use. Ensure that empty totes are maintained in a condition that allows for continued use in the manufacturing process.
• Coordinate with Body Shop Production: Ensure that empty totes are available when needed for production or assembly lines. Coordinate with the body shop production team to ensure that tote availability supports production schedules and prevents delays.
• Coordinate with Other Warehouse Teams: Work closely with other warehouse departments to ensure efficient material handling, particularly as it pertains to moving materials between the body shop and receiving areas.
• Tote Movements and Replenishment: Oversee the movement of empty totes between storage locations and the production line. Ensure that totes are replenished on time and maintain a steady flow of materials to prevent production disruptions.
• Ensure that safety protocols are followed in the warehouse, particularly with respect to the handling of empty totes, the use of forklifts and other material handling equipment, and the storage of materials.
• Risk Management: Monitor warehouse operations for potential safety risks and take corrective actions to minimize hazards. Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
• Safety Training: Provide regular safety training and conduct safety drills to ensure the team is aware of safety procedures, emergency protocols, and the correct operation of warehouse equipment.
• Optimization of Operations: Identify opportunities for process optimization in the handling, storage, and distribution of empty totes. Look for ways to increase operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and minimize costs.
• Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging team members to suggest improvements to workflows, processes, or equipment. Implement Lean or Six Sigma techniques to enhance efficiency.
• Troubleshooting: Address operational issues such as bottlenecks, delays, or inventory discrepancies. Use problem-solving skills to resolve issues quickly and ensure smooth operations.
• Operational Reports: Generate and maintain reports related to empty tote inventory, usage, and movements. Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as inventory levels, replenishment times, and productivity.
• Documentation Compliance: Ensure that all receiving and storage operations are documented properly, maintaining accurate records for audits, inventory tracking, and future reference.
• Tote Usage Tracking: Track the usage and lifecycle of empty totes, providing insights into replacement needs or potential areas for improvement in the management of tote inventory.
• Supplier Coordination: Coordinate with external suppliers or logistics companies to ensure that empty totes are delivered in a timely manner, and that there are no disruptions in the supply chain.
• Vendor Management: Work with suppliers to ensure that the quality of empty totes meets required standards, and address any issues related to damaged or subpar totes.
