The Supervisor of Lighting Systems plays a vital role in supporting the Manager and Sr. Manager of Lighting Systems within the Sphere. This position primarily focuses on overseeing and maintaining the lighting equipment of the Production Department and Venue lighting systems. The supervisor will assist in coordinating with Sphere Studios for the implementation of new show lighting, facilitate lighting discussions and programming with external productions, and ensure seamless execution of events within the venue. What will you do? People Management: Support the Manager, Sr. Manager, and Dr. Manager in overseeing lighting teams responsible for theatrical and architectural lighting within the Sphere, Atrium, and supporting areas. Direct both union and non-union labor, including assisting with hiring, training, and scheduling. Business / Process Management: Assists with coordinating with Sphere Studios, Ventures, and Venue Operations departments to establish show specific standard operating procedures. Participate in planning, documenting, training, and commissioning of systems, tracking costs against event, programming, and maintenance budgets. Manage maintenance, handling, and inventory of in-house and rental lighting equipment, ensuring all lighting needs are scheduled and met. Oversee transition from day-of-event activities to equipment load-out for assigned events. Event Management: Supervise the installation and operation of lighting systems throughout events, ensuring proper control board operation and programming. Accommodate artist and/or event lighting requirements, implementing changes as directed by the Event Director. Assist in technical advances with Artist’s representatives and troubleshoot event-day issues promptly in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment. SUPERVISION: Union lighting technicians, operators & programmers

Requirements

  • Completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of college-level coursework or equivalent self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc.
  • 7+ years of experience in production lighting, lighting tech for live events, and/or theatrical entertainment.
  • Technical proficiency with production lighting systems such as MA2, MA3, sACN, Art-Net, Timecode, show control systems, and ETC Architectural systems, along with strong computer skills including CAD (AutoCAD, Vectorworks) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with financial and operational implications in a deadline-oriented environment with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience supervising and working with both Union and Non-Union Crews.
  • Ability to create and maintain event budgets and prepare financial information for event settlements.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills emphasizing problem-solving, time management, reasoning, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while exercising sound business judgment and independence when necessary.
