About The Position

Responsible for technical and scientific oversight of the Hematology laboratory department. Provide supervision and ensure proficiency and quality control of method selection, verification of procedures, resolution of technical problems, remedial actions as warranted and release of test results.

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Science or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certification as a HLT, CT, MT or MLS OR higher from ASCP/AMT preferred. Must be eligible for certification to sit in this role.
• Three to Five years of expe4rience with increasing responsibility directly related to clinical laboratory.
• Meets the qualifications of a general supervisor as defined by CLIA regulations.

• Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Guides day-to-day departmental procedures and practices while supervising staff to ensure operational and technical reporting accuracy to ensure timely, useful processed specimens (blocks and slides) for Pathologist diagnostic determination.
• Participates in the selection process of candidates for employment in the department.
• Oversees the daily operations of the department and assigned staff which includes but is not limited to staff performance, disciplinary actions, training and competency.
• Establish and maintain departmental procedures.
• Plans and performs diversified duties, using judgment, facts, and conditions to solve problems and take action as determined necessary by assuring that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
• Prepares the laboratory for standards of accreditation and tracks proficiency testing results.
• Collaborates with the Pathologists on a daily basis to maintain a time flow of accurately prepared specimens for their diagnostic determinations. Thereby providing timely reports to providers and patients.
• Maintains accessibility to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone or electronic consultation to resolve
