About The Position

To support the Austin Community College (ACC) District's advancement of landscape architectural activities including planning, designing, developing and assessment of ACC landscape exterior and interior. Will be working with various stakeholders across the district to support college's initiatives and master planning.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of philosophy, goals, objectives, priorities and needs of landscape architectures and land planning.
  • Horticultural, arboricultural and greenhouse management practices.
  • Characteristics used to identify a variety of plants and flowers including plant materials.
  • Irrigation systems and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Knowledge of land surveying.
  • Supervisory principles, practices, and methods.
  • Budget preparation, bid and purchasing procedures, and expense control.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule, with occasional nights and weekends; may include on-call and responding to emergencies.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials.
  • Effectively communicate in a concise and effective manner.
  • Communicating effectively through oral and written communications.
  • Effectively using organizational skills with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Supervising, directing, and coordinating the activities of subordinate personnel.
  • Accept, receive, and/or collect payments.
  • Accountable for inventory/property management.
  • Make recommendations that impact the budget.
  • Manage the budget within assigned unit/division.
  • Interpreting written documents including construction plans, specifications and contract provisions.
  • Installing landscape designs.
  • Plan and design processes for landscape architecture and land planning.
  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
  • Five years related work experience including three year supervisory experience.
  • Completion of the ACC Supervisor Certificate Series Program will satisfy the supervisory experience required for this position.
  • High School degree or educational equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for local Austin area travel.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, trains, coaches, directs, coordinates, and disciplines personnel while adhering to organizational human resources policies and procedures as well as related employment laws. Recommends hire and termination personnel actions for positions supervised.
  • Develops and manages landscaping projects; duties include planning, scheduling, organizing and directing work, and training personnel.
  • Monitors jobs both indoors and outdoors to ensure quality and compliance with job standards.
  • Administers, monitors, and manages contractors to perform tasks such as irrigation, tree removal, trimming, plumbing, or retention pond maintenance; consults with contractors to determine extent of service required and schedule work so as to have minimal impact on daily operations of facilities.
  • Manages budget for Grounds Department; approves all purchases within purchase level guidelines; maintains college issued credit card, follows purchasing guidelines; and allocates expenditures necessary to improve safety or performance of grounds staff.
  • Performs duties of landscaper (demonstrate job duties to training staff, emergency repairs, etc).
  • Orders plant materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Develops and manages greenhouse and nursery stock.
  • Selects, purchases, and monitors application of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides; picks up and delivers parts.
  • Develops & evaluate plans, criteria, etc. for variety of projects, programs activities, etc.
  • Layouts/designs complex landscape projects.
  • Oversees the day-to-day activities of the campus landscapes throughout the district.
  • Writes/drafts routine correspondence and informational reports.
  • Maintains reports and records pertaining to personnel actions, invoices, and purchasing transactions.
  • Coordinates with Campus Managers and other staff to assess campus grounds maintenance and recommendations. Communicates with Director for approval(s).
  • Ensures appropriate employee safety training and compliance are completed.
  • Prepares and files vehicle mileage and status reports.
  • Performs quality checks and audits as needed on equipment and department assigned vehicles.
  • Required to be subject to on-call duties and respond to emergencies after hours, weekends, holidays, and during emergency closures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
