About The Position

The Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance at the University of Louisville Golf Club (ULGC) is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising grounds staff and ensuring the maintenance of high-quality playing surfaces. This position involves developing agronomic plans, managing irrigation, and overseeing safety protocols while collaborating closely with the Manager of Golf Course Operations. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to maintain optimal course conditions.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Turf Management, or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience within a golf course setting or equivalent education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license and insurable by the University insurance carrier.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • KY State Pesticide License or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead grounds staff, managing, training, and evaluating their performance.
  • Plan and oversee the maintenance of greens, tees, and fairways to ensure excellent course conditions.
  • Develop and adjust the irrigation plan to maintain optimal playing conditions based on weather patterns.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Golf Course Operations to achieve consistent, top-quality playing surfaces.
  • Instruct equipment operators on the proper use and care of mowing and other grounds equipment.
  • Oversee pesticide applications, including equipment calibration for effective and safe usage.
  • Maintain pumps, irrigation, and drainage systems as required.
  • Coordinate with the Spray Technician for scheduling and monitoring chemical applications.
  • Provide leadership to inspire and improve team performance in alignment with course objectives.
  • Conduct safety training to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Communicate daily with the pro shop regarding course conditions and operational issues.
  • Oversee administrative duties including hiring, performance reviews, payroll processing, and employee scheduling.
