About The Position

The Environmental Supervisor at the City of Dallas leads and supervises a team of non-exempt employees in the Environmental department. This role is responsible for planning, overseeing, and executing environmental inspections, sampling, testing, and management. The supervisor ensures compliance with environmental regulations and provides technical guidance to staff while facilitating effective communication with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in environmental site inspection, environmental/industrial waste control, air quality monitoring, or related areas.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory/project management responsibilities.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Stormwater, Zero waste, Sustainability Conservation Concepts, and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State rules, regulations, and standards including ISO 14001.
  • Knowledge of chemistry and related air quality and climate.
  • Knowledge of NPDES/TPDES and other regulatory agencies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, assigns, and evaluates environmental work performed by the staff and employees of the Environmental department.
  • Directs and coordinates work through subordinate supervisors, crew leaders, or team leaders; monitors daily work assignments ensuring all work is accounted for and completed.
  • Oversees and ensures the implementation of plans and schedules; determines goals and objectives needing emphasis and evaluates enforcement actions.
  • Uses and manipulates software applications to analyze data, understands environmental impact, and develops reports for management.
  • Performs, oversees, and provides professional input on samples and analysis; collects field samples and ensures the appropriate use of sampling equipment.
  • Coaches, advises, counsels, and instructs employees; identifies training needs for employees and implements methods to improve production or effectiveness.
  • Evaluates and makes selection or recommendations on candidates for filling positions or enforcing terminations.
  • Hears and resolves complaints from employees or groups of employees; gives first level of disciplinary actions.
  • Develops and implements new and updated standard operating procedures.
  • Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
