About The Position

The position is for a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Advocate Health, specifically in the Cytology department of the IL Central Lab. This is a full-time role with 2nd shift hours, starting between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and involves working an 8.5-hour shift from Monday to Friday, with no weekends or holidays. The role requires collaboration with pathologists and clinical leadership to ensure laboratory services support clinical and safety initiatives. The incumbent will oversee operations, maintain competency in test systems, and implement performance improvement processes to enhance patient and physician satisfaction. The position also involves ensuring compliance with various regulatory requirements and developing processes for continual inspection readiness.

Requirements

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology.
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in technical laboratory services and operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including decision making and team building.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Intermediate computer skills with laboratory information systems.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with pathologists and clinical leadership to support laboratory services.
  • Direct and oversee efficient operations as a liaison to lab leadership.
  • Maintain competency in all test systems and processes.
  • Serve as a competency assessor and subject matter expert.
  • Identify, develop, and implement performance improvement processes.
  • Plan and participate in the implementation of standards and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Develop processes for continual inspection readiness.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaborate with leadership.
  • Accountable for accuracy of test results and efficient operations.
  • Select, coach, and develop team members.
  • Manage performance and provide feedback.
  • Ensure adherence to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct.
