Are you living your life's work? The Supervisor Cytology Laboratory is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising daily operations in pathology and more specifically cytology. This position will assure that quality services are delivered with high reliability in conjunction with the respective physician leadership and management teams.

Requirements

  • Cytotechnologist Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent certifying agency.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health or related degree.
  • Five (5) or more years of cytology experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) or more years in pathology.
  • Previous supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and direct daily operations including staff schedules, workflow, supply inventory, patient care, equipment function and intra-and inter-departmental communication.
  • Develop and maintain department standards to ensure quality care is provided.
  • Ensure compliance with licensure, accreditation and safety standards for pathology and cytology.
  • Facilitate and/or provide expertise in initial investigation of exception situations, equipment failure or other adverse events.
  • Document any such events and escalates resolution through additional resources with appropriate judgment and urgency.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Clinical and Information Technology systems and software products as they apply to the lab in general, pathology and cytology.
  • Provide direction to staff and others in episodes of information system downtime.
  • Lead quality assurance and process improvement programs; ensuring effective change control in implementation of new policies, technology or procedural changes for specific work groups.
  • Develops and/or assists in the creation of policies or procedures subject to review of physician leadership and management.
  • Coordinate training associated with new policies or procedures to provide clarity and staff compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to staff and/or users.
  • Function in a clinical or technical role in the acute care setting as needed.
  • Maintain clinical knowledge and expertise to effectively contribute to patient care when needed.
  • Serve on committees and task forces as requested.
  • Work collaboratively in a professional manner with intra- and inter-departmental teams to assure care continuity and process improvement.
  • Implement and maintain proficiency testing program.
  • Investigate and document proficiency testing failures and provide corrective actions.
  • Assist manager in analysis of new test systems and the decision making process for optimum delivery of services.
  • Monitor employee performance, competence and professional development.
  • Functions as a Cytotechnologist, as required.
  • Maintains expertise within specialty and shares this knowledge with team members.
  • Maintains sufficient knowledge of primary lab services and related industry developments as applicable.
