The Supervisor, Credit & Collections, manages a small group responsible for handling field and office credit & collection operations. The incumbent is responsible for providing guidance and direction, setting job standards and providing technical support to the team. The Supervisor is responsible for the overall quality of work for the group.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in business administration, Accounting or other related fields of study is preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of directly related experience working in the utility industry preferably with collection services and office administration

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with policies, practices, procedures and laws related to the collections of past due bills and disconnecting service for non-payment of past due bills.
  • Coordinate for past due account collection services and processes.Ensuring proper notification to customers of delinquent accounts via mail, telephone, internet, etc.
  • Partner with title companies and city agencies to ensure all liens and judgements are paid timely.
  • Maintain and update collection policies and procedures.
  • Assist in managing third party collection vendor activities including payments, disputes, and billing requests.
  • Coordinate subordinate work activities by developing project timelines, milestones and analyzing impact, determining priorities of activities, making work assignments, monitoring projects, and providing direction and assistance as needed.
  • Assess employees’ needs by ensuring subordinates are properly trained and adhere to company policies, practices and procedures including collective bargaining agreement when applicable; assists in first step grievances.
  • Evaluate and meet with subordinates to discuss work performance providing appropriate commendations and disciplinary actions to ensure employees are well equipped to meet and/or exceed job expectations.
  • Coordinate and collaborate closely across customer affairs to ensure all departmental goals are met.
  • Participate in the annual budget preparation process as needed or requested.
  • Keep abreast of current trends in credit & collections practices ensuring unit is up-to-date and process information in accordance to federal, state and local regulations; participate in decisions related to improving operations.
  • Perform other special projects and assignments as directed.
