Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing.
  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience including one year experience in pediatric nursing.
  • Current and valid Nebraska RN license/RN Compact license upon hire.
  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association upon hire.
  • Current and valid certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 180 days.
  • Current and valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required (ED and CCU only) within 180 days.
  • Current and valid certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) required (NICU only) upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and supervises the daily clinical operational activities of the unit to ensure that quality care is delivered efficiently.
  • Manages patient flow and oversees the delivery of patient care, coordinating admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Effectively problem solves to maximize resources to maintain patient flow and quality patient care.
  • Ensures patient assignments are made according to the Nebraska State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Ensures documentation on daily staffing sheets and assignment sheets is accurate.
  • Works collaboratively with AC and other unit leaders in meeting staffing challenges.
  • Ensures that staff has the supplies, equipment, information, and resources needed to provide quality patient care.
  • Provides effective training on skills and changes within the industry to new and current employees.
  • Supervises nursing staff including recruitment, hiring, performance evaluation, and development.
  • Supports retention of staff and oversees the onboarding process for new employees.
  • Meets with new staff and preceptors bi-weekly to assess and coach for progress.
  • Recognizes and rewards staff with public and private recognition.
  • Maintains an environment of trust, fairness, consistency, and confidentiality with team members.
  • Supports the delivery of quality patient care by holding staff accountable to established standards.
  • Implements area specific policies and practice guidelines in accordance with Children’s policy.
  • Builds, maintains, and supports a culture that fosters effective working relationships.
