The position is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations for a specific section and/or assigned shift. This includes ensuring compliance with personnel policies, formulating departmental goals, and implementing policies in collaboration with other departments. The role involves interviewing, hiring, and managing personnel, as well as preparing performance appraisals and overseeing work schedules to ensure adequate staffing. The position also requires preparing reports for management and assuming additional administrative responsibilities as needed. In terms of technical operations, the individual acts as a resource for instrumentation, evaluates new procedures, and oversees the technical performance of the section. Budget responsibilities include assisting in budget preparation, monitoring variances, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. The role also involves inventory management, communication with staff and vendors, competency testing, regulatory compliance, and ensuring safety criteria are met.
