The Supervisor, Clinical Engineering is responsible for planning, implementing, and controlling activities, operations, policies, procedures and processes in the Clinical Engineering Department. Develops routine periodic maintenance, quality assurance testing, calibration, performance criteria, and emergency service response that ensures the safe and proper use of clinical equipment. Represents Medical Equipment Management to the EOC committees of the sites and locations that are under MLH supervision. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. A Brief Overview The Supervisor, Clinical Engineering is responsible for planning, implementing, and controlling activities, operations, policies, procedures and processes in the Clinical Engineering Department. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Biomedical Engineering
  • Associate's Degree Electrical Engineering
  • Associate's Degree Computer Engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Engineering
  • Military Training
  • 1-3 years Clinical/Biomedical Engineering Supervisory or Management
  • Certified Biomedical Engineering Technician International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology
  • Extensive knowledge of concepts, designs, operations, repairs and maintenance of Clinical Equipment.
  • General knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biology and chemistry.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate with the medical staff to read and comprehend operational, technical manuals and documents.
  • Extensive knowledge of electricity and electronics, vacuum tubes, solid states, analog and digital integrated circuits, microprocessors and computers.
  • Working knowledge of current troubleshooting, calibration and repair techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of hazards, applicable safety standards and performance criteria relating to clinical equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of regulatory agency codes, standards, general requirements for installation, operation, maintenance of Clinical Equipment as sanctioned by agencies which includes: Joint Commission, DNV, NFPA, OSHA, AAMI, ASHE, FDA, and DHEW.
  • Supervises the Biomedical Interns, Biomedical Equipment Technicians (I-III), and Biomedical Equipment Specialists.
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: heavy work - exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The Associate may be required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, develops, implements, and control departmental operations to meet goals and objectives.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of long-term plans, goals, objectives and strategies for the department.
  • Hires, develops, and retains a competent, productive, and quality conscious workforce.
  • Prepares annual expense budgets, capital request budgets, and human resource utilization plans for the facilities and supervision.
  • Determines and initiates cost efficient means of maintaining equipment which meets or exceeds customer’s expectations.
  • Analyzes and negotiates clinical engineering maintenance contracts.
