Provides direct supervision to Child Life Specialists and Creative Arts Therapists. Engages in opportunities to integrate CLCAT services within the hospital, the community and at a national level by promoting and presenting evidence-based initiatives. This position is an integral part of the health care team. Essential Functions Understands and uses knowledge of growth and development of typically developing children and children with differing abilities. Supports and guides interactions across the developmental spectrum (neonate to young adult). Recognizes the impact of the health care experience and environment on the family unit. Maintains knowledge of Child Life/Creative Arts Therapies standards of practice and hospital policies. Assists manager in development, review and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols. Supports and facilitates research-based practice within the scope of service. Acts as clinical resource to staff and escalates significant clinical issues to departmental leadership. Collaborates with all hospital departments and health care team members to assure delivery of quality care to the patient and family and promotes effective relationships between patients/families and CW staff. Supports and demonstrates a customer service commitment to internal and external customers through adherence to the Children’s Wisconsin Experience Promise. Assumes all principle duties and responsibilities of a Certified Child Life Specialist, Art Therapist, and/or Music Therapist as workload demands. (90% leadership/10% patient care). Manages the team staffing plan, including paid personal leave and casual coverage. Interviews applicants for open positions and make recommendations for hire. Collaborates with CLCAT leader to provide input on the development of annual goals and reports. Supports the implementation of department goals and objectives. Collaborates with the CLCAT Manager to plan, implement and evaluate improvements to operational workflow and processes. Collaborates with manager to develop and monitor the effectiveness of the department-based orientation program and educational resources. Provides education to new staff during orientation and conducts 90-day introductory performance appraisal. Assists in coaching and mentoring staff through facilitation of staff development and education activities. Supports staff in achievement of yearly and long-range professional goals. Contributes to developing and attaining long-range objectives for the program, including- but not limited to- financial goals, operations improvement, quality improvement, resource utilization and clinical practice enhancements.
