About The Position

The Central Sterile RN Supervisor is responsible and accountable for overseeing the decontamination, cleaning, packaging, disinfection, and sterilization of medical and surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies for DRH Health. The supervisor remains up-to-date on the current standards and requirements and ensures service delivery is consistent with ANSI/AAMI, APIC, AORN, and CMS guidelines, rules, and regulations. The supervisor promotes a culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork, and exemplifies the principles of a Culture of Safety by committing to a Just Culture.

Requirements

  • Prior nursing experience required.
  • Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English.
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive/email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information tools.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations.
  • Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
  • Must be available and willing to take call in the event no other solutions can be found within the team.
  • Must be able to respond within 45 minutes should call coverage be necessary.
  • Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA).
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in the State of Oklahoma or multistate licensure in a party state in compliance with primary residency rules and requirements.
  • Current certification in sterile reprocessing (CRCST) required; May have up to 90 days from date of hire or transfer to obtain.
  • American Heart Association BLS required; May have up to 30 days from date of hire or transfer to obtain.
  • For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
  • This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.
  • As a condition of employment, vaccinations are required per DRH Policy. Medical and Religious Exemptions are available upon request.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain services in accordance with regulatory, quality, and practice standards.
  • Interpret and administer departmental policies and provide guidance when needed; Maintain records of testing, cleaning, and sterilization procedures.
  • Ensure proper staffing, equipment, supplies, and technology resources are present for the provision of safe, high-quality decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization services.
  • Collect used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination; Manually clean contaminated equipment and instruments; Operate and maintain decontamination and sterilization equipment; Inspect instruments and equipment for meticulous cleaning and proper functioning following infection prevention and other applicable practices; Sort, prepare, and package instruments for sterilization; Prepare and deliver equipment and instruments for to the proper storage area.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, promptly reporting any issues or problems; Ensure operation of equipment by verifying daily testing and recommended preventive maintenance requirements are completed; Arrange and follow repairs to resolution; Evaluate new equipment and techniques.
  • Interact with providers and team members in a positive, patient-focused manner; Work willingly and cooperatively with interdepartmental teams to address issues/concerns in an appropriate time frame.
  • Utilize strong leadership skills to build Central Sterile team internally and building team rapport externally including patients and providers; Ensure department performance improvement plan is implemented and quality measures are monitored and acted upon in an appropriate manner.
  • Prepare/supervise monthly work schedule; Verify and approve time worked and leave usage accurately and timely; Oversee training and orientation for new team members assuring that competencies have been completed in an appropriate time frame.
  • Coach and counsel team members; Evaluate and deliver performance appraisals to team members in a timely manner; Conduct departmental meetings and team building opportunities as needed.
  • Work closely with the Director to assure smooth operation both fiscally and technically; Assist with monitoring budget variance reports.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Appropriately adapts assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.
  • Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
  • Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.
