About The Position

To effect efficient, timely repair and maintenance of the bus fleet so as to assure vehicle availability to meet safety and passenger service requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in the most cost effective manner possible

Requirements

  • Comprehensive Knowledge of :
  • Proper mechanical procedures, methods, tools, and techniques necessary to effect proper maintenance and repair of transit bus fleet.
  • Knowledge of diesel technology as it relates to repair and overhaul.
  • Knowledge of transit coach mechanical systems and the synthesis involved in the cohesive operation of those systems.
  • Skills:
  • Organizational; written communication; oral communication; reading; comprehension; troubleshooting; mechanical; teaching; complex problem solving, personal computer.
  • Abilities:
  • Ability to research and organize data to develop long-range action plan.
  • Ability to react successfully to daily events while maintaining progress toward planed outcomes.
  • Ability and willingness to foster a team environment within the Vehicle Maintenance Department and with other departments in the course of daily activities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands by internal and external customers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical problems.
  • Ability to tolerate loud noise.
  • Ability to evaluate, organize and motivate union employees engaged in mechanical repair in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to keep abreast of new products, procedures, and changing technology relevant to this position.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and job-related software applications
  • Two-year college or technical highly desirable
  • Auto or Diesel Technology or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) required.
  • Auto or Diesel Technology or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of union staff, to ensure bus fleet is available for service by inspecting, planning, scheduling, and following up on maintenance and repairs.
  • Develop and maintain a vehicle specific preventive and predictive maintenance program.
  • Highly trained and motivated work force.
  • Maximize resource utilization.
  • Maximize equipment availability.
  • Assure equipment safety.
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Develops and maintains positive public relations with emphasis on customer service. Committed to staff development and cooperative management practices.
  • Supervision of union staff, to ensure the daily fueling, cleaning and parking of bus fleet.
  • Ensure materials are available for maintenance and repairs by ordering parts and out of stock items as needed.
