About The Position

The Supervisor - Analytical Services works closely with Quality Control, other Commercial groups, and Operations to assure the Analytical Services activities are aligned with the Company's OMS and overall objectives. Participates and represents the Company in industry groups and Voluntary Consensus Standards Boards (VCSBs like ASTM) designed to effect legislation and determine product specifications. Works closely with IT and Business Unit Product owners to manage initiatives that promote efficiency and value to the lab and the Company. Provides analytical support in QC related Incident Investigations. Pursues and evaluates new technologies that will add value to the Company. Assignments are received in the form of functional/departmental/regional objectives and goals. Consistently exercises independent judgement and applies knowledge/experience to determine the proper process by which to meet goals/objectives. Administers direction within the latitude of established company policies. May be required to be actively involved with projects to meet schedules or project deadlines. Work is measured by overall completion of objectives, goals and job expectations. Has the authority to hire, terminate, discipline or recommend changes within work group. Work is typically of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires an evaluation of a variety of factors to establish a course of action. May recommend modifications or improvements to operating policies/procedures. Erroneous judgements/recommendations/decisions or failure to achieve results typically result in serious delays to schedules and may result in considerable expenditures of time, human resources and funds to rectify.

Responsibilities

  • ANALYTICAL RESOURCE. Provides technical expertise for development of customer testing programs, customized test methods, analytical results, and developing action plans to meet product specifications for departments across the company. Provides support for development of laboratory growth projects.
  • COMPLIANCE. Ensures all quality and regulatory requirements are adhered to and maintained to ensure the department is prepared for internal and external audits. Responsible for adherence to Federal and State guidelines to demonstrate compliance with fuel production and reporting requirements. Oversee Interlaboratory Cross Check Programs and Statistical Quality Control practices for the Analytical Services labs and applicable terminals to demonstrate accuracy and precision requirements per EPA 40 CFR Part 1090.
  • CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT. Administers all aspects of customer testing program workflow in LIMS to ensure fulfillment of Company’s contractual obligations to customer. Promotes company's Analytical Services to expand client base while fostering strong client relationships. Captures, monitors and analyzes the strategies and tactics of competitors that serve to threaten current and future business opportunities. Investigates and communicates business development opportunities as indicated by customers in the market place.
  • BUSINESS OPERATIONS. Assists department manager in monitoring operations to meet established goals related to revenue growth, O&M expense control, collection of overdue accounts and maintaining a 3-year Instrument Life Cyle Plan to replace aged/obsolete instrumentation.
  • MARKETING. Identifies and selects promotional opportunities for company's Analytical Services, including trade shows, conferences, brochures, catalogs, direct mail campaigns, etc. Attend national and regional trade shows. Structures sales and marketing efforts to improve customer focus and increase revenue from current clients and targeted prospects.
  • CONTRACTS AND PROCUREMENT. Establishes and ensures compliance with analytical services contracts. Oversees laboratory processes for procurement of services and material, and procurement and repair of laboratory instrumentation.
  • SUPERVISES. Mentors and supervises Analytical Services chemists in providing maintenance support, training and repairs to lab/field instruments. Oversees the execution of Laboratory Testing Programs at the East Houston and Aurora Labs. Responsible for direction of work, daily supervision, employee evaluation, establishing goals, coaching and professional development, counseling, and disciplinary actions when necessary. Responsible for knowing and following the CBA for the USW employees.
