We are seeking a dedicated nursing leader to oversee ambulatory clinical operations, support staff development, and promote high-quality patient care. ________________________________________ Position Overview: The RN-Ambulatory Supervisor reflects IU Health’s mission, vision, and values, adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance. This role is accountable for providing and coordinating competent, evidence-based care across the outpatient setting, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The supervisor provides leadership, management, and oversight of nursing practice and clinical care delivery, ensures adequate staffing and resources, and supports personnel management for clinical staff. The nurse collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, participates in problem-solving, and ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. The RN adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ASN) required.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per department policies.
  • Two years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of procedures and equipment relevant to outpatient care.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple functions efficiently for a group of patients.
  • Understanding of legal and regulatory implications of nursing practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Oncology Clinic Experience Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Support: Performs all duties of an RN (vitals, injections, infusions, nursing procedures, specimens, patient prep, lab draws, line access, etc.)
  • Provides guidance and oversight to nursing staff to ensure safe, evidence-based patient care.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Trains New RNs, coaches’ staff, delegates tasks, and provides feedback, facilitates orientation, and mentors staff to work at the top of their license, identifies educational needs and coordinates follow up with RN -TL-educator or CNS.
  • Rounds on patients and team members.
  • Serves as a positive role model for staff in supporting and maintaining accountability and upholds IU Health Values.
  • Operational management: Ensures smooth patient flow, resolves daily operational issues and conflicts within clinical area, manages schedules, and daily staffing needs, sets work schedules, helps to manage timecards, schedule updates, and PTO requests, participates in performance evaluations for RNs and interviews of RNs.
  • Quality and Safety Compliance: leads quality improvement initiatives and ensures the unit adheres to regulatory standards such as OSHA and JCAHO.
  • Monitor key metrics to help improve overall team performance in collaboration with department leadership.
  • Liaison: Communicates between staff and supervisor/manager/director.
  • Problem Solving: Addresses patient issues and team challenges.
  • Improve department Efficiency: Ensures RN tasks are delegated effectively and workflows are followed, coordinates with other departments to ensure seamless transition of care.
  • Enhances Patient Care: Mentors RN to staff to provide better service and solve problems quickly
  • Supports Staff: Builds a strong, positive team environment, fosters open communication, with low turnover.
  • Resource Stewardship: manages clinical supplies, oversees equipment maintenance, and assists in monitoring the department.
