About The Position

The position provides direct supervisory oversight to pharmacy staff, integral in initiatives that support the department's individual staff members and foster growth and development through education. The role ensures ongoing department compliance with regulatory requirements and competency, and may involve completing or being involved in staff member's annual evaluations and providing ongoing feedback. The position requires expertise and advanced knowledge to be viewed as a system expert in either an operations or clinical domain. Additional aspects include potential participation in departmental scheduling needs, interdisciplinary committees, professional development, and performance improvement initiatives, as well as leadership development and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy required.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy preferred.
  • 5 years of hospital experience and completion of PGY-1 residency required.
  • 2 years of hospital experience and PGY-2 residency required or 7 years of hospital experience or equivalent management experience required.
  • Licensed Registered Pharmacist upon hire required.
  • Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS) certification upon hire preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight of safe, accurate, and timely medication order verification including clarification of any medication orders with discrepancies prior to dispensing.
  • Manages the integrity and security of medications in all care locations.
  • Oversees investigational drugs, preparation of injectable chemotherapy, medication wastage, returns, and recalls.
  • Reconciles controlled substance wastage and manages compounding of formulations.
  • Ensures quality control assessment and coaches pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.
  • Validates regulatory compliance and provides medication therapy management services.
  • Participates in training and education of pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, pharmacy students, and medical residents.
  • Reviews and analyzes medication event prevention, monitoring, and reporting with an emphasis on patient safety.
  • Participates in quality, safety, and performance initiatives related to medication use.
  • Develops and modifies policies and standard work related to medication use within the health system.
