This role involves supervising all Blood Bank operations at Cape Cod Hospital Laboratory, including the development, coordination, implementation, and standardization of policies, procedures, and practices. The supervisor oversees the Blood Donor Center/Program, focusing on marketing, expanding services, increasing collections through internal databases and external drives, and reducing dependency on purchased blood. Key responsibilities include supervising procedures for compatible blood assurance (typing, screening, crossmatching), preparing and dispensing blood products, performing serologic testing, ensuring quality control and instrument calibration, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and accurate data transcription. The position also entails planning and organizing services, managing employee scheduling, ordering supplies, monitoring quality control, evaluating work quality, and overseeing all aspects of blood donation, including fixed off-site and mobile collections. The supervisor works in the donor room to maintain technical competency, assists during staffing shortages, performs health histories, phlebotomy, blood component preparation, donor recruitment, and clerical functions. They are also responsible for process improvement, assisting pathologists with programs (QC, QA, QI, new methodologies), reviewing donor paperwork, orienting and training staff, serving as a technical reference, maintaining confidentiality, fostering harmonious relations, pursuing professional development, adhering to hospital policies, ensuring customer satisfaction, participating in QA programs, providing budget input, interviewing applicants, developing communication, and conducting staff meetings.
