About The Position

NextCare Urgent Care is seeking a licensed Physician (MD or DO) to serve exclusively as a Supervising Physician. This is a non-clinical, administrative oversight role. You will not be responsible for seeing patients in-person or performing clinical shifts. Your primary focus is to provide regulatory-compliant supervision and clinical mentorship to our Physician Assistants across our Arizona locations. This is a temporary position 3- 6 months while we restructure our medical leadership team

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited MD or DO program.
  • Licensure: Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Arizona.
  • DEA: Active DEA registration.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, ideally in an Urgent Care or Emergency Medicine setting, to provide effective mentorship.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of Arizona Revised Statutes (Title 32, Chapter 25) regarding PA supervision and NP collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification: Board Certification in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Internal Medicine is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision Agreements: Establish and maintain written delegation/supervision agreements with PAs (specifically those with <8,000 hours of clinical practice) as required by A.R.S. § 32-2533.
  • Clinical Oversight: Review and ensure that health care tasks performed by APPs are within their scope of training and experience.
  • Quality Assurance & Chart Review: Conduct regular, structured chart reviews and provide feedback to ensure adherence to NextCare’s clinical protocols and evidence-based standards.
  • Availability for Consultation: Be available via telecommunication (phone, email, or video) during clinic operating hours to provide guidance on complex cases or diagnostic impressions.
  • Prescriptive Oversight: Maintain a system for recording and reviewing instances where PAs prescribe Schedule II or Schedule III controlled substances.
  • Compliance: Ensure the "physician-physician assistant team" maintains identified scopes of practice and established performance evaluation processes.
