RESPONSIBILITIES: The Supervising Immigration Attorney will lead, train, and supervise a team of legal staff members providing quality, trauma-informed Removal Defense and Affirmative immigration law services. The Supervising Immigration Attorney will also manage an immigration legal services caseload and represent their own clients. The Supervising Immigration Attorney will lead the planning and implementation of our Legal Clinics and support the overall achievement of the strategic goals of the legal program. The Supervising Immigration Attorney reports to the Director of Leadership and Advocacy . Lead the development and execution of the Legal Services strategic vision for Adelante Mujeres . Assign, monitor , and consult on the caseload of legal staff, including immigration attorneys, DOJ Accredited Representatives, legal assistants, fellows and/or summer interns to provide quality, trauma informed legal services. Self-manage a legal caseload. Legal services include consultations, legal advice, limited- scope or full-scope representation. Conduct legal research and efficiently review motions, briefs, and appeals. Record case management data, in accordance with laws, industry standards, and procedures. The Supervising Immigration Attorney may specialize in one or more of the following focus areas: Removal Defense: Assist clients in their defense against deportation, including the filing of Habeas Petitions and Bond Hearings/Asylum/Withholding of Removal/Cancellation of Removal/Motions to Change Venue/Motions to reopen/Prosecutorial Requests Affirmative: Assist clients in their affirmative immigration matters, including naturalization, adjustment of status, temporary protected status, asylum, family petition, DACA applications, and employment authorization, SIJS predicate orders, VAWA, U/T Visa petitions (N-400, I-485, I-821, I-589, , I-130, I-821D, I-765, I-360). Oversee the operations and management of the legal services programming. Communicate as needed with internal and external stakeholders . Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school
  • Licensure to practice law in a U.S. state, Oregon or Washington preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with immigration law
  • Minimum of 2 years working with detention cases
  • Experience supervising a legal services team
  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee communities
  • Professional-level fluency in Spanish, written and oral communication
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment; self-starting with a flexible growth mindset
  • Flexible, agile and comfort able with ambiguity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), case management systems, and online legal research
  • Emotional and cultural intelligence: While performing the duties of this job, the lawyer is regularly required to discuss topics including, but not limited to, discrimination, domestic abus e, sexual assault, human trafficking, and violence .
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Adelante Mujeres organization, environmental stability, employee well-being, and support for immigrant and BIPOC communities
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with a wide range of people, including excellent verbal and written communication
  • Complete Criminal Background Registry
  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to arrive to work s ites consistently
  • Abil ity to travel out of town to represent clinics and attend workshops or trainings

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge or familiarity with other languages is a plus: (Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Creole, Arabic, and Ukrainian)
  • Experience working with clients in Detention Centers.
