About The Position

DTSC is seeking to hire a Supervising Hazardous Substances Engineer to lead exciting and impactful cleanup efforts in the Bay Area. As a Supervising Hazardous Substances Engineer I you will have the opportunity to: Provide technical direction and training to staff who oversee environmental investigations and cleanup activities at property where hazardous materials, substances or waste were released into the environment Provide guidance on staff's review of submitted documents, field work oversight, regulatory decision-making, and communication with responsible parties, project proponents, external agencies, and the public Utilize high-level technical skills to oversee investigation and cleanup of property with hazardous materials and contaminated groundwater problems Oversee and assist staff in evaluating appropriate sampling and mitigation techniques, based on accepted engineering principles and practices Develop and update work plans, schedules, commitments, and monitor program activities, in conjunction with the Branch Chief, to ensure that program performance goals, performance measures, and schedules are met

Requirements

  • Knowledge and application of engineering principles related to site cleanup and RCRA corrective action
  • Experience leading professional staff
  • Experience developing, assessing, and tracking performance measures
  • Knowledge or experience managing large and complex projects
  • Knowledge and experience interacting with stakeholders and the public

Nice To Haves

  • License as a Professional Civil Engineer in California is a plus
