About The Position

The Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board (Central Coast Water Board) has an opening for a Supervising Engineering Geologist to lead our Groundwater Protection and Regional Monitoring Section. The individual coming into this position will utilize their skills, knowledge and technical experience in geology and hydrogeology, and their knowledge and experience in the Water Board's regulatory programs and cleanup policies to oversee management of the Site Cleanup, Department of Defense, Underground Storage Tank, Land Disposal, and Oilfields programs, as well as the Central Coast Ambient Monitoring Program. Requirements

  • Candidates must possess essential personal qualifications including integrity, initiative, dependability, good judgment, the ability to work cooperatively with others, and the ability to perform the assigned duties of the class.
  • If the position requires driving, you must possess a current and valid driver's license.
  • Must have Professional Geologist (PG) license.
  • Must have Supervising Engineering Geologist list, transfer, or reinstatement eligibility and be reachable on the certification list.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a supervisor in the implementation of water quality regulation or policy.
  • Strong ability to coach and mentor others, including conducting performance evaluations.
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the work of multidisciplinary teams and professional staff.
  • Ability to work effectively and create a positive environment of engagement with all levels of staff, management, and the public.
  • Strong ability to manage complex programs and projects, including setting program priorities and achieving performance metrics.
  • Strong ability to work under pressure, implement effective decision making, and demonstrate time and task management skills.
  • Knowledge of the Central Coast Region's regulatory authority and policies.
  • Experience in preparing regulatory and policy documents and complex hydrogeologic investigations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead regional scale community and public outreach functions and communicate data and information associated with the programs, including presentations to large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability working for or with a governing Board.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and promote partnerships with internal and external customers, follow through on commitments, and solicit and consider internal and external customer input when completing work assignments.
  • High level of professionalism; Excellent leadership skills; Commitment to practice continuous self-improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee management of the Site Cleanup, Department of Defense, Underground Storage Tank, Land Disposal, and Oilfields programs, as well as the Central Coast Ambient Monitoring Program.
