About the position

The Supervising Drainage Engineer will lead a specialized practice in Transportation Drainage, Stormwater Management, and Hydrology and Hydraulics within Parsons' Pacific Northwest team. This role involves overseeing drainage and hydrology components of various transportation projects, including highway improvements and fish passage projects, primarily in the Seattle area but also extending to Oregon and Hawaii. The successful candidate will manage a team of professionals, ensuring technical excellence and timely project delivery while fostering client relationships and mentoring staff.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary interface with Parsons' Project Manager and discipline leads.
  • Supervise all drainage/hydrology aspects of major transportation projects.
  • Lead a team while building and managing relationships with key clients.
  • Demonstrate excellent design expertise and mentor engineers in the preparation of plans and reports.
  • Manage projects profitably and transition work to qualified staff.
  • Maintain affiliation with professional societies to stay updated on current technologies.
  • Oversee the team's technical deliverables and ensure project schedules are met.
  • Promote technical excellence on projects and ensure adequate checking is performed.
  • Coordinate discipline design work with project staff and engineers from other disciplines.
  • Establish budgets and supervise the execution of work.

Requirements

  • 12 years or more of experience in transportation drainage, stormwater, and hydrology engineering and design.
  • At least 5 years of direct project management experience in Washington.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Washington Professional Engineer license.
  • Knowledge of WSDOT standards and practices, including WSDOT HRM Training and/or certification.
  • Experience with MGS Flood Software, Fish Passage Design, and Department of Ecology's Wetland Hydroperiod Protection.
  • Strong client contacts and relationships with local authorities and resource agencies.
  • Experience writing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets.
