About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is now hiring for a Supervising Clinician to join their team! DISCOVER THE OPPPORTUNITY TO Supervise the agency's Outpatient Program and be a member of the agency's Leadership Team; Provide administrative and clinical supervision to an interdisciplinary treatment team that provides community-based behavioral health treatment to adults; Schedule, assign, and oversee the work of staff; and Develop goals and objectives for team and monitor client outcomes. ABOUT US DMHAS is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve. WCMHN was formed in 1996 in order to coordinate clinical, fiscal and administrative oversight of Region 5 contracted and state-operated mental health services. Their mission is to provide a comprehensive and effective recovery-oriented system of mental health and addiction services that promotes self-sufficiency, dignity, cultural sensitivity and respect. Within this service system, there are three state-operated Local Mental Health Authorities, which are located in Waterbury, Danbury and Torrington. In partnership with WCMHN, they provide and coordinate local clinical services. Over 200 staff including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, rehabilitation and mental health workers provide services for persons with a long-term mental illness. Approximately 7,000 clients receive services in a variety of programs, including peer support programs, recovery services, supported employment, homeless services, residential, crisis services, jail diversion, outpatient, case management, Assertive Community Treatment Teams (ACTT) and young adult services.

Requirements

professional health care experience in a psychiatric setting

Considerable knowledge of variety of intervention and support strategies

Knowledge of societal, cultural and gender issues and impact on mental illness
Knowledge of psychotropic medications
Knowledge of impact of housing and homelessness on the mentally ill
Considerable interpersonal skills
Considerable oral and written communications skills
Considerable facilitation, collaboration and conflict resolution skills
Ability to identify and articulate philosophical foundations for specific program models or service approaches
Ability to delegate authority
Ability to plan and organize effectively
Ability to integrate community resources into service planning
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with community representatives and staff
Supervisory ability
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license as a Clinical Social Worker, a licensed Marital and Family Therapist, a licensed Professional Counselor, a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut or hold a Multistate or Compact Registered Nurse license
Incumbents in this class may be required to possess certification as a clinical supervisor by the Connecticut Certification Board
Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel

Responsibilities

Develops relationships with and acts as liaison to other operating units, agencies and outside officials, community representatives and customers
Assists in mediating conflict impacting on service recipients
Assists in ensuring staff ability to access and employ community resources
Assists in integrating community resources into service planning and delivery
Identifies barriers and assists in developing strategies and solutions for improving client care
Prepares reports; may assist in developing performance standards
May prospectively review and monitor client care for clients to determine clinical necessity and effectiveness of care
May educate providers on principles of managed care and its impact on client care
May perform clinical direct care duties as needed
